6 Ways to Boost Your Spirit

Sometimes life gets tough and it’s hard to stay on the positive side of things. These are moments we need to listen to what our inner self wants to say to us. Here are some insights from our WeAreAyala community.

KC Deleon’s two-way test

  1. Find meaning and purpose in your job. Becoming a member of the Healthway Marketing team under Ayala seemed to be an ironic yet pivotal point for KC Deleon: she previously worked for companies that manufactured cigarettes, junk food, and even alcohol. Discovering her place in the healthcare industry clicked with her life goals as a marketer and a mother. “We don’t just promote commodities, we save lives,” she shares. Witnessing the way patients thanked their doctors for touching their lives granted her work purpose. Knowing you are making a difference is a powerful way to wash away stress. When the pandemic hit, KC doubled down, successfully protecting her home despite the health crisis, running essential errands, and sustaining a side business with her husband to further support her family—all while exceeding expectations with her time and efforts at her full-time job.
  2. Stay close to family. “With renewal comes positivity and the realization of what really matters in life,” she says, “My family always gives me hope, and despite the current situation, Ayala emphasized that they are here for us.” KC hopes to champion working moms everywhere, honoring them for their sacrifices and the selfless love they bear for their families. She looks forward to transitioning to a better new normal, especially for her young son.

Juan Miguel Saratan’s lessons from a COVID-19 survivor

  1. Hold on to faith. When Juan Miguel Saratan tested positive for COVID-19 in the last few days of 2020, he settled in a quarantine facility to begin his recovery. Left to celebrate the New Year in isolation, away from his family, and struggling with symptoms of the illness, he remembers it as the lowest point of his life. “It gave me anxiety and depression,” he recalls, “I thank God for guiding me. Holding onto my faith and the support of my family and friends gave me the courage to conquer all my worries during that time.”
  2. Live life with gratitude and hope Juan Miguel is grateful to be part of a company that looks after their employees with compassion. “They called from time to time, to check on me and boost my morale.” When asked about any realizations that he’ll always carry with him for life, he quotes Nicole Kidman: “Life has got all those twists and turns. You’ve got to hold on tight and off you go.” While the country recovers just as he had from that fateful New Year’s Eve, Juan Miguel is optimistic, expressing his excitement to one day again see the beautiful smiles of those around him – free of face masks and face shields.

David Benison Tinampay’s path to a better, stronger body

  1. Commit to a fitness plan. David Benison Tinampay once weighed 108 kg. A Physical Therapist by profession and a new dad, David felt he needed to make a change for the better. After modifying his diet to curb looming health concerns, he discovered cycling in early 2021. From leisurely covering short distances, he eventually started riding his bike to work.

Now weighing 82 kg, David has reaped the rewards of his newfound hobby: his strength, stamina, and mobility have improved, while his anxiety levels have been reduced. When faced with demotivation, he turns to his wife and young daughter for inspiration and hope. He has also been spurred onwards by his colleagues and Ayala, who provided their full support for his fitness journey and through his battle against COVID-19.

  1. Start slowly. Don’t be daunted by your fitness goals. Start slowly, then build up surely. Eat a balanced diet, and always begin the day with a positive mindset. “Wake up with a sense of gratitude and do something that inspires you,” David shared, “I am still a work in progress, but nothing is impossible. We are capable of going beyond our limits when we do something consistently.” As the country recovers, David looks forward to spending more time with this family and letting his daughter see and enjoy the beauty the world has to offer.
