Wow Davao: Let’s go to the beach!
When we think of summer destinations, we often visualize the more popular beaches in Boracay, Cebu, and Palawan. But if we go further down south, we’ll discover hidden gems in Davao.

Island Garden City of Samal
How to get there: Take a taxi or bus (Php 117/way) going to Sasa Wharf or Sta. Ana wharf, hop on a boat (Php 20), and go to Samal Island. You can also bring your private vehicle and take the barge (Php 250). This island is just two kilometers (roughly 15 minutes) away from Davao City.
One of the more popular beaches in Samal is Pearl Farm Beach Resort. Its exclusivity and topnotch service promise you a luxurious experience. You can also check out Paradise Island Park and Beach Resort and Chema’s by the Sea, which offer a relaxing beach experience and value for money.
Aside from the white-sand beaches, activities such as island hopping is also popular among Samal-goers – where small or big groups can rent a pump boat for a day and go snorkeling to see the coral reefs of the island. You can also visit the Monfort Bat Sanctuary.
From mountain trekking to bike trailing, scuba and free diving, or just relaxing in the beaches, locals and tourists alike can enjoy the island depending on their adventure preference.
Mati, Davao Oriental
How to get there: If you’re not up for a boat ride, you can take a three-to-four-hour road trip via bus (Php 250/way) or you can rent a van (Php 3,500/day) to Mati City.
Its white sand beaches stretch from Dahican to Bobon and boasts of strong waves, making it perfect for surfing. For surfers, you can stay at Dahican Surf Resort or Sheepy’s Surfside Resort. While on the other side, from Dahican to Lawigan, the stillness of the waters makes it suitable for beach cottages to stand on stilts.
Furthermore, Mati City is also home to the Mindanao Saga Flying Club, where you can rent a glider/plane (Php 2700 for 15 minutes) to see Mati City, Dahican, Mayo Bay, and Pujada Bay.
Foodies should not miss Bador’s Chicken and Seaside Empanadas.
From the serenity of the waves and the warmth of the sun, going to the beach or trying out a new adventure is a refreshing experience. Plus, you get to create new memories!
